Questions reg. VDO Dayton PC5100/00 from a newbie

    Hi,

    My first post here.

I've got a few questions about the VDO Dayton GPS system and was hoping that someone could help me.

I've purchased a secondhand car and it's got the VDO Dayton GPS installed (it wasn't installed at the car factory, but at a later time).

The CD or DVD drive itself (placed under the passenger seat) says PC5100/00.
In there, there's a CD or DVD. Where is Navigation 5.0 (its from 2002). It says that it uses Teleatlas technology.

    The screen says MM 5000/01.

Under configuration, I got the following info

    Part no. SY594/00E
    HW no. 0125
    SW no. 0690
    Prod week 22
    Prod year 02

    So it's obviously from 2002.
Can I update the system and also the maps?
The maps on the screen has got a bit of an old look to it.
Would this be sorted by a software upgrade?
Also, where do I find new maps? Would be handy with an update, especially as the map is old (from 2002).

I've got no experience with how to update maps (let alone free maps found on the net) and would appreciate all your help.

    - I NEED A MAP FOR AUSTRALIA -

    Also...what does Non CIQ mean?

And finally...because this is such an old system - is it still good enough to use? Or is it miles behind the TomTom's etc?

    EDIT:
And I think I found a solution (it's working anyway, haha).
I found out that I needed the CARIN files.
I found these ones. Although it says BMW, it also states that it works for my system.

I burned the files with IMGBurn as described, and VOILA! It's working.
I can't get over how easy that was.

fine! by the way the last firmware version is 0760 for this device, but you dont have to update if the current version runs stable as no new features will be gained. non-ciq means this is NOT an intelligent-content-on-demand (pay per use) system. although the graphic is not so superrior it is a decent system with such extra, even today uncommon features like a gyro sensor, storing last position on powerdown etc.

    Thanks for your reply.
So is there absolutely no difference between firmware version 0690 and 0760?
If not, I obviously won't touch it.
If I had to change it, would it be easy to do so and would you mind pointing me in the right direction?

    Don't worry
The items that were introduced with 5075 (buggy) and 5076 (bugfix) contain only issues that cannot be used in Australia anyway

    • Postcode entry
    • QXS address entry where you can select street first and then select city
    • manual selection of TMC station with the proper TMC receiver

Neither of these facilities are available on the Australian maps

    Hi

    I have a vdodayton computer.
On my system I have under configuration, the following info -

    HW no. 0125
    SW no. 0690

I am after a CD map for New Zealand?

I have a Whereis navigation CD Version 5 for Australia which is no good to me.

Is there any VDO dayton software I can use?

    Thanks.
