RNS510 POI update from SD card

    Hello

I am trying to add the POI's to my RNS510 unit and failing miserably !! It is on firmware 3970 and I have just updated the maps to 8.0. I only have a single layer DVD burner so I had to build the ISO with out the POI database to get it to fit. The 8.0 update was fine and now I have no POIs. I have downloaded POInspector 5.7 and loaded the db3 file from the 8.0 maps (including the speedcam files) and then used POInspector to copy this to an SD card (formatted FAT32). When i load the card in the unit, I go to settings, and navigation, and the POI button is greyed out and not available.

Has anyone got any ideas if I am doing something wrong/stupid/both

    Thanks

    Dave

Without the original POI database having been installed onto the harddisk it is little surpise your attempts have failed. You even could have come to the idea yourself
What is the problem investing 20 euros into the purchase of a DL burner?

So what I understand from your helpful reply is that you need the original POI database to be able to add Personal POI's to it then. Now thats clear, I wont keep trying to add them off the SD card then, and I will go and invest my £15 in a DL DVD burner (I have a currency that is actually worth something, unlike the € at the moment....). Just thought I would try and work it out myself before spending money. But once again, thanks for your help, and warm & friendly advice.

You may have noticed the Euro gained considerably against BP and USD today
With the present attitude you will soon see the "splendid isolation" return

Re: RNS510 POI update from SD card

Just to add some useful information to this, I have borrowed a friends Macbook with a DL DVD drive, and have burnt the DVD with the POIs in. I was then able to add some Garmin POIs to a DB3 file with POInspector and then export to SD card, and then add them to the RNS510.

Re: RNS510 POI update from SD card

Hi. i have a similar issue. i updated firmware from 2720 to 3810 (so 3 partitions created) then to the latest 4020. i then restored the V8 maps that i have, but the My Personal POI is greyed out. I have some POI on the device, but naturally want to add my own ones without having to butcher the original image. how is this possible?
    thanks

Use POInspector to create your own POIs and load than in your device.

Re: RNS510 POI update from SD card

    I upgraded my RNS form 2890 -> 3890 .> 4120
    Everything went OK.
So i must an extra partition for POI's (Btw how can you check how many partitions you have on your HDD ?)
Ik made a db3 file with POIspect0r and try to import that file in mij RNS.
But the option is still grey and i won't work. The SD card is ok because al the MP3 files are doing well.

    Hi

The solution: do what they write in this link POI-Listen Sammlung < RNS 510 < Volkswagen NAV-Companion < Volkswagen Deutschland and it works fine.
the name of the db3 ile must has 9 characters minimum and hte PersonalPOI must be in a directory under the root named PersonalPOI.
