It seems the HDD ist not correct formatted. This is a problem by using modified pre-released Firmware. Use Josi's HDD-Format SWL-CD to format your HDD. If this will work your HDD is back to life
I've upgraded my RNS10 to FW4024 but now my HDD is not recognized anymore. So I have to navigate with a burned DVD. I've already downgraded tp SW 3974 (is it actually downgrading?) without any positive result.
Information:
3T0035680B
HW vehicle 0xC201
H11
SW version 4024
I hope that someone is able to give me a good advice to solve this major problem.
Thanks in advance.

I've updated to 412x on a skoda columbus, and it requires recoding, if i downgrade to 402x will i still need to recode or will the system recode itself
The downgrade is no solution to avoid the coding. If the coding is once deleted the device must be recoded. So if you make downgrade its anyway neccessary to recode the device. Now you need a user with VCDS or Setconfig. Otherweise you can drive to VW to recode the device.
