i have just purchased a RNS510 version C for my VW Passat (2008). I am relatively new to the VW navigation system and its workings. Am I correct in assuming only certain maps work with certain firmwares?
The Passat does not have steering wheel controls. Do I need to work out what firmware is on the device first? Is there a map commpatability table?
Apologies if any of the questions are silly questions. any feedback is appreciated.
V10 europe are the latest maps available. ( cd_8048 )
It works best with firmware 3xxx or higher because of 3xxx firmware has a 15GB music, 7.5GB navigation and 7.5GB POI database partition.
Original system information is located on a sticker on your RNS 510 and consists of part number 1T0 035 680 x / HW: xxx / SW: xxxx, with that information it is possible to determine the correct firmware for your RNS510.
the only exception: personal POIs
- if you want to use personal POIs you need firmware 3xxx and at least maps V7.1.
- but as stated above, you can use firmware 3xxx with any map version. you just won't be able to install PPOIs via SD-card with older map versions than 7.1.
- and forget the partition sizes, that has nothing to do with the maps performance. the third partition is automatically created with the recommended stable firmwares in their UPDATE-version (3980, 4120 and 5238) so you'll be able to use PPOIs.
