Re: Video in Motion / TV Free for RNS 510 via software update

ok i have tried to get this to work and done it this way and used this file
    RECODE_Berto89

Burn it into a good quality CD at a low speed (I did it at 1X)
    Unlock and/or open the car
Do not start the car and do not insert the key in the ignition
Turn the RNS 510 on and insert the firmware CD/DVD into the drive

Wait until the Upgrade finish (The RNS-510 will restart 3 times, and it's done when the CD is Ejected)

(if the system say that this version is older than the one on the system, or any other message, try to do it one more time)

the system reboots OK but the vid still go`s off when the car moves

    any help greatly received

It is mentioned before on severial sub topics.
Just put your RNS in Firmware Downgrade mode: Press "Setup"+"Mic"+"Eject" together
    Then insert the CD.

Did you receive an answer for this because I am in the same situation. No hidden menu after long pushing the setup button. Only fm&am.

    Couple of possible answers:
    * You can enabled this using VCDS (VagCom)
    * You can change it using a custom firmware CD.

    Have a look here: Accessing the Setup Menu on RNS 510 head units with firmware version 2660 / 2662 / 2664 / 2666 / 2668 | my-gti.com

Re: Video in Motion / TV Free for RNS 510 via software update

    Thanks for your answer netdat!
I suppose that activating this feature (by VCDS) can only be done by Volkswagen dealer?
What about the custom firmware CD? Also Volkswagen dealer...or can it be downloaded from internet?
If the dealer will be the only way to have the SW version then… it’s going to be difficult to ask this to my dealer.
Suppose they ask why do you need it?

My car is from 2010. Do you think it's stupid to applying the VIM-file with no SW knowledge?

    Thanks for your assistance

Re: Video in Motion / TV Free for RNS 510 via software update

    You are going off-topic...

But coding can be done on a VAS (Which is the hardware /software which a VW dealer is using) or using VCDS which anyone can do if you have bought the cable.
The firmware CD can be self made, just use JosI recovery CD

Applying VIM is not stuppid using the methodes described in this thread, it is pretty safe since it just changes a "config" file (Actually a registry setting )
