    Old POI (TBD) -> DB3 (7.0 -> 7.1)

    Hi all,

I just got my new Golf VI GTD with the RNS 510.
It was delivered to me with Firmware 2660 and the NAV-DVD 7.0.

Now I upgraded the RNS to Firmware 3810 and would like to use the 7.1 NAV-DVD (West) which I already downloaded. As far as I can see, there are no radar / speed-control POI integrated in this 7.1 Version.

I already found the POI-Inspector 5.4 which seems to be able to storer POI-data on an SD-Card and thus transfer these POI´s to the RNS.

I downloaded a pack of POI´s (Sauerland V7 mostly for Germany and some for Europe) and would really like to have these POI´s on my RNS-510 to use it with the 7.1 DVD.

Is there someone out there who could explain to me, how to convert the old-style POI to the new .db3-version? I do not find anything on that topic nor was I able to find a suitable POI-download for version 7.1.

    Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks a lot and enjoy your cars!

Before you embark on anything DON'T UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE to 39xx
Your unit is in no way intended for use of the firmware and you are likely to brick the unit although some have had succes
Lots of units have already been fitted with new software, reflashing the EEPROM or even a nw motherboard
    You also jeopardize the warranty

    Thx for the advice :-)
Bricking this thing would not be a good idea, it´s a company car :-)

Any advice on converting old-style poi data to new .db3-format?

    Cheers,

    Okay...

seems that I am a quick study :-)

I found an IDX to ASC converter.
Took the "old style" idx-files and converted them.
Looked up the correct categories in the LSC-file.
Renamed the ASC-files from xxxx.asc to BurgerKing.asc for example.
Imported Icons and ASC-files via POIInspector 5.4 to newly made categories.
    (German only)
Saved the new .db3-file to the sd-card.
Went to the car, imported the personal-poi-file.
    Done! :-)

And although this is an (mostly) english forum I am happy to share that file with you, even if most of you will not really find it useful. (remember: most of the POI´s are for Germany only!, though this might be useless for all the others)

Unzip, create a folder on SD-Card named PersonalPoi (make sure you spell that correct). Copy the .db3 file into the folder. Go to your car and import the .db3.

    Cheers,

Dunhillsmoker - what program did you use to convert the IDX to ASC. I am trying to do this on my maps and cannot find the program anywhere!

    Thanks

There you go. You´ll need a Windows system with Dot.Net 3.5 installed.

    Have fun.

Dunhillsmoker, just wondering whether you can tell me where I've gone wrong?

Have located the .idx files on an Australian V3 map disk.

I open the idxurl2asc program you recommended and try to point to the folder on the disk but get error message saying denied access or read error with idxurl.510 file.

Tried to point it to a folder where I copied all the .idx files from the map disk. But nothing happens either!

However the program seems to only work on .url files and not .idx files.

But on the Australian V3 map disk, I cannot find any .url files at all.

Do I need to somehow convert or decrypt the .idx files on the map disk to .url first, for the program to then convert them to .asc?

Well done in upgrading - I've never seen any problems with the recent units, which yours clearly is.

In terms of db3 stuff, if you PM me, then I will try and help. Should be fairly simple. I wrote the POInspect0r guide, so know my way around it all.
