Hi all, I just registered so I could provide some feedback about this latest MapCare update

A colleague of mine received the original (my v50 is 03/2009 so a few months too old to receive the updates for free) and I'm copying them at this moment.

I'll try and update this post as I go ... so far this info may be useful to some people:

As you can see, the Media Type is DVD-ROM but imgburn reports 2 layers. I admit I don't know enough technical ISO stuff to know if that's normal or not

but I'm going to burn it to a regular DVD and report the results.

DVD2:to do

To answer some of the questions above:
- The update is 2 discs and you need to install them both
- After installation, disc1 needs to remain in the drive (even though RTI is HDD based, I assume this is to prevent using the update in multiple vehicles)
- It is possible to start updating with DVD1 if you don't have DVD2 yet (see below)

I'll post a transcript of the accompanied "Map Update Quick Guide" later today.

As promised the transcript of the "Map Update Quick Guide" for anyone who's interested: (couldn't find how to edit my previous post)

Introduction
This DVD-ROM upgrade kit contains updated map data and software for Volvo HDD RTI. Please read the notes and instruction before updating.

Notes

The time required for the update procedure is dependent on the map data size. Remaining time will be displayed on the navigation screen.
Do not eject the DVD-ROM during the update process unless you are prompted to.
After the update process is completed the DVD-ROM must remain in the unit for normal operation. In case the update kit consists of more than one DVD-ROM, disc 1 must remain un the unit.

Instruction

Turn on the navigation system and select user mode. Update is possible both in Easy and Advanced mode.
Insert the DVD-ROM in the navigation unit.
After a while the update screen will be displayed. Please note that the update will be performed in several stages. Plese follow the onscreen instructions.
During the map update procedure, the navigation will be available only if the process is paused. The process is paused by pressing the Back key. The process can be resumed in advanced mode by selecting Resume in the menu. In Easy mode the process can be resumed by restarting the system (ignition off-on).
After the update is finished the DVD-ROM must be kept inside the unit. In case the update kit consists of more than one DVD-ROM, insert disc 1. The navigation will not be available if the DVD-ROM is removed from the unit.
