Re: How to: adjusting laser lens on Volvo RTI navi systems.

Currently, I have the same problem with a 2004 V70. The RTI stopped working and keeps complaining about the not readable DVD. So I tried adjustig the power, but:

I cannot confirm your resistor values. Default was 4,2kOhms, und I lowered it to 3,7k (without any success, btw). Where do you get these values from?

I had the same readings on my multimeter, but i guessed that "my"4,2k was the same as "branco80´s" 420k or so..
I tried 357, 386 and 396 -> but it could not read it, only at 4,16k (mine was originally 4,2k)

I registered to say a big THANK YOU to Branco80, today I was able to readjust the power of my Volvo-Navigation-Laser. I adjusted from 4k5 down to 3k6 and cleaned the lenses, so now my Volvo is back in the state where she tells me exactly where to go to. GREAT!
To find the mini-potentiometer please have a look at the pix attached.
    Best regards

Thank you very much to Branco80 for this post!

My system was not reading even the original dvd and I could fix it and afterwards update to the current map files.

    I adjusted from nearly 6K to 3K56. It is a 2004 S60 RTI.

    Regards

Laser beam has always the same frequency, all over the world. The only thing you could check is resistance, which is used to adjust beam power.
This can be done with a simple digital tester, one of those used by electricians.

Re: How to: adjusting laser lens on Volvo RTI navi systems.

    Hi @all!

Yesterday I have removed my RTI unit from my 2004 V70 and have also dismantled the device, to cleaning and adjusting the beam power. My RTI won't read burned Discs in the last time, only with my original one (from 2007) the device might to work.
The resistance before the operation was 5,46 kOhms, I have adjust it to 3,56 kOhms and it works!!! To take a higher resistance, you need turn the resistor clockwise, for lower resistance in the other direction, but caution: You need to turn only a little bit! To change the resistance of my unit, I have turned the screw about 10 degrees, not more!
Today my RTI is working fine with a burned version of the 2015 Disc.

I want to say many thanks @Branco80 for this very helpful instruction!!

    With greetings from Germany,
    brembo.
