Re: Problem with burning RTI DVD

I have burned several P2001 discs. I have never experienced any problem and I find these disc extremely easy to burn.
they work with random burners, random DVD's (but i always try to use top quality as HP and EMTEC), and in all cars including these from 2002 year.
i burn with 4x speed and DVD-rom booktype.
if you do as above, and your reader is unable to load the map, most likely you need to clear laser with cleaning cd moist with alcohol.
it usually helps, and it is recommended if the reader is located in trunk, where there is a lot of dirt .
Do not waste time and money for trying different discs and recommended burner, just clean laser, use burner which is able to change booktype and reasonable quality disc
(insted of expensive verbatim, which has random quality) and the map MUST work!

Re: Problem with burning RTI DVD

Most of the problems with the DVD unit for the P2001 system can be attributed to the cleaning disc which was part of the dvd box for a number of years
Cleaning discs with the aid of accumulated tar, dust and fine sand constitute the ideal circumstances for the perfect abrasive, leaving the user with a slichtly matted laser lens!

Most problems with Volvo P2001 DVD units occur with models 2003-2005 where the DVD unit comes withou the protective cover on the slot
These units are the worst ever produced and will almost never read any copies and quite frequently not even read originals

Never ever use a cleaning disc even if the supplier tells you it is of the "NO SCRATCH" type

Take the unit out, open the lid and clean the laser lens with a Q-tip and a drop of cleaning alcohol

I find your opinion very strange.
i have also never experienced any negative result of using clening cd's.
What is the difference between q-tip and soft brush from cleaning cd except of no need to unit dissasembly?

Brushes are not as soft as a Q-tip. You can moisten the brushes but the liquid will not hold
And cleaning discs may only be used in household equipment

But please go ahead an destoy your precious laser unit if you think to know better than the professionals in the industry

My post was not agressive and I do not claim to know more than anybody else, professionals especially.
i just post my observations and experiences.\
i am using CD with soft brushes located all around disc.
the fact is that such CD helped me few times when unit was not able to read map.
there were also no negetive result to the reader as far.
but maybe there will be if you claim so.

The positive thing about using Alcohol120% is that you can set the booktype to DVD-ROM. In my case this made everything work ;-)
With IMGBurn I couldn't set the booktype to DVD-ROM because my dvd-writer was not part of the list with DVD brands.
