There are two methods to develop satellite image map for Garmin 450 and 550.

The first one is garmin's customer map. It is great. However, every image is limited in 1024X1024 which is tooooooo small. Another limitation is only less 100 images are accepted.

The second method is buy garmin birdseye satellite map service. However, a lot of countries can not buy the service, for example, in China. And the speed is unbearable.

Anyone know the format of garmin birdseye satellite map? Can anyone develop a tools for the map developing? There are so many free satellite map services all around the world.

      Hi,

Is there a firmware 3.8 for the Oregon 450. Isn't the latest one 3.40?

what is the cheapest garmin widescreen that can work with bluechart marine maps?

I'm being a cheapo but I really like the larger widescreens of the garmin auto models - can anyway of them properly display bluechart marine maps? I read the nuv255w won't show depths for example which makes it useless. Any proper working ones?

              Hi
I use an OREGON 450 for sailing, not the cheapest, but it works correctly with the bluechart. It is waterproof, I keep it in my pocket even when the weather is bad, or even when the sea is too rough for working on a paper map.
My best friend when I sail alone.

thanks; you do not find it too small? Also - can garmin software - like mapsource in conjunction with bluecharts actually route a course for you -or is that always done manually?

                  Hi
Small ? yes, but more convenient than an ipad to have it on his pocket !
I don't use mapsource. I have a computer under linux with QlandkarteGT (not so common). But anyway, I prepare the route manually.

mapsource works with bluecharts. homeport works with bluechart g2 vision. both make routes.

Re: "can't unlock maps" after crash

Well, tried the 2011 unlocked image and that one works like a charm...weird, though.

                          Can't Unlock Maps????

Just got an Oregon 450, and picked up the US Topo 24k Northeast maps on DVD to load on to it. The catch is, after I transfer the map to the unit from my mac, the unit says "Can't Unlock Maps." Does anyone have any ideas? This is infuriating me, as basecamp says that the map is unlocked.

                          **EDIT**

Figured it out... after I'd posted of course. I had another map lumped in with the topo, and it's unlock code was messing with things...

                            Foreign firmware

Where I could find oregon 450 firmware in language other than English?
I'm Indonesian, and I just bought Oregon 450 last Black Friday via online.
They don't sell those in my country officially.
The bottom line is I want to experiment a little...

Yes it's possible. You must open rgn file (firmware) with a program and cange voice files. Ask to PouchX poland site (google) and they help to you
