    Info request

    Hi there!

I'm looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 62st but can't really work out how the "putting maps on the device"-part works.
I've browsed through several topics and tutorials on this forum, but don't understand what section to look into (eg. when i download a TOPO map, does this mean it's locked or what?). All in all i want to know: is it easy to put maps on the device and can I do it myself?

I don't really need you to give me a mile-long explanation, but a push in the right direction might be usefull

    Thanks a lot!

      This post will help you.

Use gmaptool to check whether the img file is locked or not

There are several other ways to unlock the img file.

        Re: Info request

        Thank you for the help!
After a lot of reading, 1 question remains:
why would you want to buy (or download) maps from eg Garmin whilst you can download them from OpenStreetMap?
Are there any disadvantages I haven't discovered?

          Re: Info request

I'm new to the forum, fresh owner of a 62s. Bought it mainly for alpine touring in the swedish mountains. After a few days of trying I just managed to get the full topo over sweden to work. It would not have been possible without this forum. Super thanks guys!

A few questions where I have found various conflicting answers.

          1. What is the biggest size microSD I can use on the 62s? I have got it to work so so with a 16 GB, but it finally worked fine on a 4GB. It could be for other reasons than the size though.

          2. Is it so that I cannot have several img's on the same microSD? the most knowing posts I have read claim that this is possible, but I seem to not get it right when I try it.

          Keep it up guys!

            Re: Info request

Clarification on question 2: I have read K@rals tutorial on how to update maps, and I will go with this. Only one map on SD, two maps possible in GPS. Anyone has other info?

New question 3: I downloaded Garmin_MapSource_BlueChart_g2_Vision_VEU712L-Sweden_East off Pirate bay and saved straight onto SD, tested for fun before starting the unlocking sequence, but it worked straight away before unlocking. No keygen, no fast IMG unlocker. How is this possible? I have played around with it for some hours, and I cannot find anything wrong with it.

              Re: Info request

              hi alfonso,

some info on question #2: my gpsmap 62s works fine with a (quite fast, class 10 or so) micro sdhc card from kingston. i currently have 5 different maps at hand: the basemap on the internal memory, 4 other maps (city navigator, 2 topos, 1 raster map) on the sdhc card. just name them in this fashion:

              gmapprom.img
              gmapsupp.img
              gmapsup1.img
              gmapsup2.img

              hope this helps,
              HydroPhil.

download waypoints in UTM from 62s

                I have Garmins: a 60csx and a 62s.

I can download my UTM waypoints from my 60 in Mapsource and cut and paste to where I want them (xls/csv/text). But BaseCamp will not permit me to do the same from my 62.

Surely someone has solved this problem (apparently not Garmin who are worse than unhelpful on the matter).

I have found indirect ways include uploading to the 60 and downloading via Mapsourse, going via Google, going via MapInfo or Arc (particularly foul with the projection changes) and also copying them by hand for that matter, but all require additional resources or create scope for errors.

And I still cannot quite believe Garmin would deactivate this very basic function. Any Ideas?

                cheers

                Ross

                    Garmin 62S memory

Hi I've just bought a new 62s when I check the internal memory it is 1.7Gb
is that right? It is not much to put a UK topo map in,Have I made a mistake?

Where can I get a UK topo map to put in the internal memory
                    Dave

Hi In a previous post I was wondering if I can get a UK topo map that will fit into my Garmin 62s
I only seems to have 1.7Gb internal memory

Zoom Level Problem with 62s Software v3.90

1st of all: Thanks for this most valuable forum.
Since my recent update to v3.90, the Zoom Level configuration in Map Setup / Advanced Map Setup does not work properly anymore. What ever is setup, I have a display gap between map scale 50m and 80m. Deatails are only visible when the scale is 50m or less. This is true for all my maps, e.g. Topo CH as well as CN2011. Can anybody confirm this as a bug or am I doing something wrong?

                        Thanks!

You have to buy a MicroSD card in order to install your maps

I'm having a 62s running v.3.9 and zoom levels are ok, zoom level is set to auto so I get details at 80m if I change to let say 120m I gets details at 120m

Thanks Geek, I checked once again and can confirm the problem. I can see small trails only at zoom level 50m and less regardless of the zoom level set.

Try to reset to factory default in the map menu, mine sometimes after switching profile I can't see any details but after a reset everything ok
