    "Gmapsupp.img" to Mapsource

    Dear friends,

I'm very happy with this website. First of all I want to welcome you and wish you all the best, and then give thanks for all the information deposited here. Many thanks.
I need information that I have not been able to find and sure some of you can give me a hand.
I have a Garmin GPSMAP 76 The simplest model, I downloaded some files "BlueChart" to decompress it to me on a particular file gmapsupp.img. The MapSource and I opened it to put GPS chips, but I do not know how to do it. Can you help me?

Many thanks from Cadaques (Catalunya) EU.

    Hi Surething
I'm new to Gramin and working on topo maps for my edge800 and found these version of Belux Topo Pro:
    1) Map Source Data Locked: Original Installer
    2) Map Source Data Locked: Not need install
    3) Map Source Data UnLocked: Not need install
    4) Image Locked + SQL:
    5) Image UnLocked + SQL:
    6) unlocked gmap folder
    7) unlocked img file

    A) Can you tell me which one would be the one working with BaseCamp on my PC to make routes on the PC and than sync everything with the edge?
    B) Is 1) the one what you call: "...Garmin supplied PC install versions..."

    Thank's

    @lekijiji
Because of the name of the thread, I'm assuming that you've reverse-engineered an image file using cgpsmapper in GMapTool. If so you will lose the map detail zooming out.

That's a normal situation with simple preview maps and also can be observed in 3rd party maps made with cgpsmapper installed by install.bat method.

It doesn't happen with Garmin supplied PC install versions though, you should be able to zoom all the way out to 3000km with them..

No Aspirin, my problem is I can not zoom out of the 100km range.
If I select, say, 150/200...km, the map would blank.
Can only see the map area squares (yellow border) but no image.

    Blank map.
Depending on the Map Detail scale and the Zoom level, the map blanks.
Best I can do is with "Max details" and "zoom 100km"
I followed all the tutorials and map (City Navigator Europe NT 2014.40) installed flwalessly on to Mapsource, but I still can't get the overall picture.
Didn't I read something that fixes this problem?
Can you give some screen shots of this?

    I can keep going closer.

    Have you done a search?

    What happens then?

I'm new here, just got referred to this forum by a friend. I haven been using a 2610 and later a 2008 BMW Zumo equivalent to the 550. But I never updated the map. Now I seem to need it as so many roads have changed.
Now I installed the 2014.40 map on a SDcard and it works fine. But how do I get this new map on my Mac. I found several tutorials for Windows, on this forum too, but not for the Mac (OSX10.9.2) running Basecamp 4.2.4. Can someone help me with this?

    1) I do have a working version of mapsource with 2008 maps with the find feature working that came with a working GPS. Could I download City Navigator Australia & New Zealand NT 2014.40 Sensis (or Navteq) from GPSunderground and run this update after installing my working 2008 version and expect everything to work including "Find' with 2014.40 maps loaded?

    Thanks for your time.

I have used cGPSmapper for many years and have never ran into a problem making a mapsource install from a IMG file.

Here is details on how to use cGPSmapper:
cGPSmapper - Your Tool For Creating Maps

You can have as many version as you like in Mapsource using cGPSmapper.

In regards to 2008 and 2014.40

I have saved every version on my backup PC.
    All the 2012, 2013 and 2014 maps.
Each one make a folder so you do not lose any maps.......

In regards to Tiger he has spelled it out OK I do not understand why you would be confused?

If you are going to use cGPSmapper be sure you know what you are doing and it will work every time.

Once you have that GMAP directory you have everything you need to "compile" your own custom maps, with the size and coverage you can live with. You can compile your own maps (called mapsets) with either Mapsource or Garmins Mapinstall. Mapinstall seems to be the preferred map compiler tool these days. Mapsource is old, unsupported and belived to be error prone (although I've personally never experienced an error on a map it produced.

That reversing proceess will still work for many non NT maps that were built from the OLD style IMG file input format. You can see which files were used if you read the fill map (IMG file) into the GMAP tool and observe the names of all the sub files (either GMP or IMG)

Can someone please give a more detailed explanation of the next statement, i.e the fix for missing FIND in Mapsource after splitting gmapsupp.img with cgpsmapper.exe and gmaptool and importing into mapsource.

This issues is because information lost when the IMG is split an pieces are used as mapsource input. "IMG" files are mapsource output files. There was a time when this process used to work fine but garmin changed its map compiler input file format from "IMG" files to "GMP" files (which chanfed the file format enough to break the reversing process you have read about).

"" To fix... Just get the correct mapsource input files (the "gmap" directory), copy them to the correct place on the PC and all will work."" ??????????? More info please.

Besides trying to "reverse" an IMG file (as you are discussing), there is another solution. The correct (error free) way to get a map in and out of mapsource is to start with the correct input files. These are the new format "GMP" files and if you download the mapsource version of the map you get a single folder that contains EVERYTHING you need for mapsource. That folder has the name ".GMAP" and below it you will find all/many ".GMP" files.

    Thanks in advance.
