  • TomTom One 3rd edition update frustration

This is my first post but I've enjoyed reading the advice on the forums and really need some help.

I've had the above unit for a few years. A mate of mine updated the map successfully about 2 years ago (I presume via patching/keygen etc). and I currently have the Western Europe 1GB map 710.1561/ navcore version 7.166/boot 5.5501.

I need to update the map and have a download of Western Europe 845.2666- I have been through the following steps:

1/Updated latest version of TomTom Application from TomTom Home
    2/Patched this navcore
3/Deleted my original map folder and replaced with the new map folder.
4/Applied keygen to the map/created DCT etc.

I kept getting the message "Western_Europe_1GB This map cannot be used with this device".

Tried doing everything again, have tried both EasyUseTools and Albert's Easy Map programs but same outcome.

I tried wiping the whole contents of the unit and repeating the above but now I have the message "No maps found!" The exclamation mark just rubs it in.

Have tried it once more and the same thing happened. Thankfully I have a backup which I will have to resort to for now. As far as I can see the navcore and map are compatible and I seem to have the correct meta file. Am I missing something?

    My method which always works:
    1. Extract the Easyusetools folder and subfolders to the root of a hard disk in my pc (structure X:\easyusetools\ with subfolders)
    2. check that the meta.txt in subfolder \progs has the 845. map metas
    3. copy the files *.pna and *.meta from the map folder to the subfolder \insert_meta_from_Map_here
    4. write your 10 character device ID (from ttgo.bif) in a file called DeviceID.txt in easyusetools main folder. No spaces between the digits.
    5. run RunMeforDCT.cmd in a CMD dosbox. On Vista and Win7 go to Start > search box > type CMD and rightclick on the found cmd.exe then select "run as administrator".
    6. copy the resulting *.dct file into the map folder.
    Done.

If you still have errors, post the output of the commands here, but anonymise your deviceID.

      Hi heijx,

Just given that a try, everything ran fine from the DOS prompt but on booting the TomTom I get the same old message "Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: Western_Europe_1GB".

I updated the navcore and patched it before I cracked/copied the new map across but I got the same message even when I used the new navcore with the old map- I'm therefore presuming the issue is with the navcore and not the map.

Hello, you need a navcore SE for using cracked/copied maps.

Won't cracking the original navcore do the same job? Not sure I necessarily need an SE navcore but if you could suggest one I'm willing to give it a try!

I believe your Navcore is soooo out of date that it simply doesn't support the latest maps. Update your navcore SE or patched. Check the map to Navcore chart under the maps section.

            Cheers

I have not been using the old navcore for the new install- I downloaded the latest navcore 8.010 from TomTom and then patched it- have tried both EasyUseTools and Albert's Easy Map to do this and both programs appear to have patched it correctly.

Hello, you can make a backup of your original navcore and put the navcore SE in the device. But when your device has an SD card in it you can put the navcore SE on the SD card with the new map also on the SD card, and you can hold the original navcore in the intern memory with your original map.
Does your device has an SD card?

No, unfortunately there's no SD slot- just the internal 1GB memory. I have a reliable backup, made this using Home but have restored from it several times now so it definitely works.

I'd be willing to give an SE navcore a try, do I just literally download one and substitute it? Not sure which version would work with my unit.

Does your navcore have ttsystem & PNDNavigator files? If so, did you patch 2nd one?

Check you have the correct maps for the correct navcore:

I never trust TTHome with my backups. Always have a full Windows Explorer-based backup of all the contents of your Tomtom memory. Simply select all files on the Tomtom drive and copy or zip them towards your PC.

After you have the backup, delete everything except the map directory and extract the SE navcore towards your tomtom. Read the readmenot.txt file on how to set the switchfiles and restart your tomtom.
Grab either the SE 8.562 or the SE 8.417. The 9.* versions tend to be a bit heavy fpr One/XL models.

845.2666 works on ANY device, even PDA and Go classic.

Ok, I've done that now. I also formatted the device after my backup prior to reinstalling the map and installing the SE Navcore 8.562. When I boot the system I now get the message 'There are no voices available'. You will not hear any spoken instructions'. I suppose that is because there are no voices saved on the unit yet. OK. When I then press 'Continue' the map appears but when I touch the screen everything freezes and the map goes a grey colour and then the whole unit resets- then the 'No voices' etc message appears again. I think I'm making some progress but still not quite there.

what is the file size of your map Western Europe 845.2666 ? and do you need this map, which country are you in?
the reason for asking is the map in question has no features like lane guidence or qspeech so why upgrade navcore with these features.

with only 1 gib mem, you need to be careful which map to use.
