  • can i upgrade my maps without using the original TT SD card?

totally new to all this and please excuse the silly questions but I have read it would be best to use another SD card to upgrade my TomTom and Im wondering how I do this

I have a TT One version 2 i think as it has an SD card. if I back this up to my PC as it shows in the video tutorial, can I then extract back to a blank SD card and use this to upgrade my TT and the maps?
Using the original TomTom SD card with UK and Ireland maps, I would be afraid it would all go wrong and I would lose everything
I presume the upgrades and patching etc is all done when the SD card is in the TomTom
Im looking at upgrading my UK and Ireland maps but would also like to have Northern America maps installed as I will be travelling there soon...do these maps have to go on seperately or can they all go on together

In short as I'm bit tired
You can use any card (limited 2GB capacity to your bootloader version eventually), you can have card in device or in card reader while patching. Check maps section for maps compatibility and pick maps you want. Each card must have navcore and map as a minimum. Problems - ask here!

No support over PM - check Tomtom Tutorials Section and ask within forums.

My idea: Keep your original SD card somewhere safe and get yourself a 4 GB SDHC card (minimum class 4, better class 6).
Get a new bootloader for your One in order to be able to use 4GB SDHC cards. Safest bet is to download Navcore 8.412 official version from Tomtom:
      Code:
      http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/8.412.xl2009_live_2048.CAB-navcore-XL_LIVE.cab
Open this cab file with Winzip or 7zip and extract the file called system (not TTsystem) to your old SD card. Do not use the rest of this cab file as it only works on a Tomtom XL.
Make sure that your Tomtom is properly charged, put the SD card into it and start it. It will update your bootloader to 5.5128 which is widely accepted as one of the better bootloaders.
After this operation, you can shut down the tomtom, take out the old card, store it in a safe place and use the 4 GB or bigger SDHC card.
On that card, place Navcore SE 8.562 and start adding maps. The only limit for the amount of maps is the size of the SDHC card. They will all have their separate folder and you change maps in the menu of your Tomtom.
      I would suggest:
UK and ROI 845.2645 or 850.2781
      US/Canada 845.2645 or Canada/Mexico 845.2645 or US/Canada/Mex 850.2784 or North America 850.2781
After your trip to America you can replace the NA maps with Western and Central Europe 845.2645 or 850.2800.

The SE Navcore is already patched so you only need to patch the maps.

so i tried this out this evening...
updated the bootloader to 5.5128 ok
then put Navcore SE 8.562 on new 4GB SDHC card along with WE 845.2645. Wasnt too sure what the folder name should be so i named it Western_Europe like my original one was. Used Easyusetools 11-1-10 to patch the maps ( Run Keygen for all maps at your TTDevice) seemed to run ok
I saw in the video tutorial that also need to patch the ttsystem but i couldnt see this option in Easyusetools so I ran "Run Patcher" option2
On TomTomHome - operate TomTom it tells me I cannot use the map Western_Europe-132 and when I turn on TT without PC connection I get warning there are no voices and then the map appears but I cannot open the menu or anything
          Did i do something wrong?
