The traffic button refers to the paid service of TomTom for traffic information. When you run TomTom Home and connect your device (create also a TomTom account) you will be able to subscribe (monthly fee).

      I did suspect that..

There is no other way to get this function to work?

Is there somewhere to find a liftime activationcode?

As above you will have to pay for it if you want it unfortunately.
Give it some time and hopefully over at xda developers they will get tmc working with the HD2 like they did with the HD, then you will be able to use iGo8 to receive traffic reports.

I got it working fine on my HTC TP2 running tt7.918.9193, as mentioned you have to buy it, but do it from within TomTom Home and you can get a 12 month sub for £29.95 rather than the £7.99 a month quoted on the main TomTom site. Although they offer Traffic and Speed Cameras for £34.95 which isn't bad but I get my cameras from elsewhere.
