  • insignia NS-NAV01 and NS-NAV01c and miopocket

the NS-NAV01c is the Canadian version of the NS-NAV01. installing miopocket is a bit different being the folders on the sd card are named differently. this is the approach I have taken on the NS-NAV01. most of this is included with the install file but I have not seen and updated info in the install file for the NS-NAV01c. will list what I have found below for that unit at the bottom of the post.

    1. Copy the MioAutoRun and Media folders to the root of your SD card (ex. so that it looks like \Storage Card\MioAutoRun and \Storage Card\Media). Do NOT copy the SDFree folder; that's only for SD-free (flash disk) installation.

    2. Insignia: Create a folder named CNAV on the SD card, copy MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe to that folder, then rename MioAutoRun.exe to CNAVClient.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to CNAVClient.mscr.

    4. If you have the USB cable attached, disconnect it. While your device is on, insert your SD card into your device. If it's already in, pop it out and back in. Alternately, on some devices, you may be able to initiate installation by tapping the power button once and then, once the screen goes off, once again.

(I just popped the prepped sd card into the device while it was off and turned it on to start the install)

After a few seconds, an installation window should display on most devices. If it does not, perform a soft reset and see if that initiates installation. If your device simply freezes when you attempt installation, try re-formatting your SD card or using a different card. If re-formatting the device as FAT32 makes no difference, try re-formatting it as FAT.

Once the installation window displays, about 10 seconds will go by and your device will reboot to complete the installation. (I waited 30 seconds then hit reset pin for a second at this point ) Note: you will need to repeat this step after every hard reset or shutdown because those operations flush MioPocket (and anything else that you installed) from memory and return your device to factory condition.

If no installation window appears with any of those suggestions, you may have renamed MioAutoRun.exe incorrectly. That's easy to do because some operating systems (especially Windows) hide common file extensions (like ".exe"). If the file was listed simply as "MioAutoRun" (without the ".exe"), then, when you rename the file, don't include the ".exe" either. If you are not sure, try removing the ".exe" from the file, anyways, and try all of the above suggestions again.
    5. MioPocket ought to be installed. Enjoy.

NS-NAV01c basically doing the same as above but the folder names have changed a bit on the sd card

    1. create a folder in the root of a new SD card called WLNANavi480_272.

    2. copy MioPocket to the SD card and MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and Mortscript.exe to the WLNANavi480_272 folder.

    3. rename the MioAutoRun.* files to WLNA_Navi.* and replaced the Insignia SD card with the MioPocket card.

    4. Copy the MioAutoRun and Media folders to the root of your SD card.

    5. If you have the USB cable attached, disconnect it. While your device is on, insert your SD card into your device. If it's already in, pop it out and back in. Alternately, on some devices, you may be able to initiate installation by tapping the power button once and then, once the screen goes off, once again.

This unlock method will also work for the Insignia NS-CNV43. xtyler92's universal sd unlock will also work. I prefer to use the xtyler92 universal SD unlock with a few of the apps from miopocket, and then get rid of miopocket to make more room for nav apps. I have an Insignia NS-CNV43 with xtyler92's unlock, running iGo8 8.3.4 and iGo Primo both running from a 2gb sd card.

just got an insignia NS-NAV01 and will try to have it unlocked. What is the largest SD card I can use on it? Does it support SDHC?
      Thanks.

No, it only supports SD cards up to 2GB. Supposedly just for firmware and maps.

Re: insignia NS-NAV01 and NS-NAV01c and miopocket

This configuration was created, by me, for the Insignia NS-CNV43 using xtyler92's universal sd unlock. Xtyler92 deserves all the credit, I just adapted it for the Insignia GPS and my personal needs. This unlock as configured, has selections for IGO8 and Primo. It also has a few applets(book readers, calculator, etc). The NS-CNV43 Unlock should work for the NS-NAV01 also. Use the NS-NAV01c UNLOCK for the NS-NAV01c.

If you want to try it, You can download from the link listed below. This configuration should be extracted to the root of your storage card. Your igo8 and primo directories should also be at the root of the storage card and named IGO8 and igo_primo(or make appropriate changes to the mainpage.ini file). Once that is done, just power cycle the GPS and it should load the new menu with IGO8 and Primo selections Let me know if it works for you, or if you have any questions.

NS-NAV01 SD UNLOCK Download Should also work for the Insignia NS-CNV20

NS-CNV43 SD UNLOCK Download Should also work for the Insignia NS-NAV01c

Xtyler92's original readme file will be at Storage Card/WLNANavi480_272/README FIRST once you have extracted the archive to your storage card. That file explains all the magic of the unlock and how to modify it to your needs.

Glad your enjoying it. Be sure to let us know if you get the sim to function. That would be quite an achievement!

                    Good luck with it.

                      Hi,

I have manged to get miopocket on my NS-NAV01. However I can't get the gps signal. I was told by someone that I need to adjust my port & baudrate.

                      1) I don't know what those are, I tried to google it but nothing comes up.
                      2) If I did have it where do I change those numbers

Can anyone help me with this please?

                      Thanks,

Insignia NS-NAV01 GPS is at Com port 7 Baud rate is 4800. Some applications automatically find this and some don't so you may need to add it manually.

Much thanks dohcacr. I'm going to try this over the weekend. I just got the NS-NAV01c.

So the way I understand, is just replace add this to a 2GB card, plug it in and it should be good to go? Or should I follow the OPs steps first?

First time I take a try at unlocking one of these devices...

That's correct. Of course, you will need the nav applications IGO8 and/or IGO Primo installed at the root of your card as well. The IGO apps should be in folders named IGO8 and igo_primo, or you will need to modify the mainpage.ini file. If you are going to install both IGO8 and igo_primo on a 2gb sd card you will need to share the content of IGO8 with Primo. I can tell you how to do that if necessary.
